Best time of my life

Here, some of the international students tell about their studies at the School of Science.

Diego López González"The selection of courses is very good and you have the possibility for different specialisations during your studies. The possibility to be part of a research group helps to get practice on the theoretical knowledge." Diego López González, Spain

Anja Thiede"I am very happy that I decided on this programme for my master studies. It combines different fields of neuroscience in compulsory courses and offers still the opportunity to choose other courses and projects freely, dependent on your own interests! The involvement in research projects from the beginning is also a big advantage." Anja Thiede, Germany

Udit Anand"With the start-up scene booming in Helsinki, Aalto is the right place to be at. It is the epicentre of all major activities. Flexibility is another thing that I have found at Aalto. It gives you the freedom to do things that you want to. Also worth  mentioning is that the professors and staff as a whole are very supportive and encouraging." Udit Anand, India

Yusuf Tasli"Being a student here is much more than just studying with a lot of different student traditions and specialties. The workload is very adequate, you are always very close to companies and you start your working experience quite early. I can definitely say that I spent the best time of my life as an exchange student in this beautiful country." Yusuf Tasli, Turkey

Student guilds

Attached to each degree programme on the Otaniemi Campus, is a 'guild'. Guilds have a multitude of social activities and provide a host of useful benefits. Four active guilds operate at the School of Science:

Guilds offer their members a variety of activities both in Otaniemi and in the Helsinki region, supervise the student members' interests and wellbeing, and keep in touch with other student societies at Aalto in Finland and around the world. Guilds operate in co-operation with the School of Science and are based on their members' voluntary work in the spirit of 'teekkari' tradition.

Guilds are also a contact point for the Aalto University Student Union (AYY) which represents students in different decision-making bodies of the university and promotes their interests in society. There are over 200 different clubs from sports to culture connected with AYY, which also organises events around campus. The Finnish Student Health Services (FSHS or YTHS in Finnish) provides basic health care services for university students.
